Odisha man stages fake Rs 18 lakh loot to throw wedding party

Cuttack: In an attempt to throw a big marriage celebration, a youth faked a loot of Rs 18 lakh on Wednesday and landed in trouble. He further lodged a false police complaint in this regards in district’s Khuntuni Police station.

The accused, identified as Santosh Kumar Raj who works as marketing manager of a gutkha company, was booked under Sections 203, 409 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code on charges of cheating, misappropriation of money of the company where he was working and providing false information in respect of an offence.

According to reports, Raj was attempting to misappropriate the firm’s money and spend it for his marriage.

Santosh had lodged a police complaint alleging that four bike-borne looted Rs 18 lakh from him at gunpoint on NH-55 near Radhakishapur flyover under Khuntuni police limits in Cuttack district when he was carrying the cash after collecting it from various pan masala dealers, according to Sambad report.

After he gave a fabricated statement, a police team conducted search operation at his house, in which Rs 15,30,000 was found under a mattress, according to report.

Raj disclosed that he had given Rs 2,66,000 to one Rakesh Sahoo. A total of Rs 17,96,895 has been recovered in the case, police said.
