A survey conducted by the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) revealed that only 13 % of Hindus thinks that Muslims are highly patriotic and only 33% Hindus count a Muslim among their close friends, Times of India reported.
According to the study, titled “society and politics between elections,” Indians primarily cultivate friendships within members from their own community.
Similarly, only 20% of Hindus considered Christians as patriotic and 47% for Sikhs. In contrast, at least 77% Muslims consider themselves as “highly patriotic”. While just 26% of Christians have put Muslims in the same category.
Based on the answers received for questions such as “should the government punish those who don’t respect the cow; don’t say ‘bharat mata ki jai’ at public functions; eat beef or cow meat; do not stand up for national anthem; or engage in religious conversions?, around 72%, who participated in the survey, were found to hold a “majoritarian” view, 17% “weak liberal” and 6% “liberal”.
