After violence broke down following the verdict in Baba Ram Rahim’s case, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have been put on high alert. 17 people are reported to be dead in the clashes that erupted following the verdict in Baba Ram Rahim’s case. The Dera Sacha chief, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, was convicted on rape charges by a special CBI court at Panchkula.

Minutes after the verdict came, heavy violence broke out in the adjoining areas. Two buses were also burnt in the clashes in the national capital. While the protesters turned violent, the Intelligence Bureau sent out an alert and directed that security be tightened in the bordering states of Punjab and Haryana.

Delhi traffic police say that the road has been blocked near the Bhopura border keeping in mind the ongoing violence. Meanwhile, heavy security has been deployed in Sirsa as the crowds turned violent. Protestors torched media OB vans, police stations and also a railway station.

Loss of at least 10 people has been reported in the ongoing clashes in Panchkula, while many are reported to have been injured.
