Panipat City is one of the 90 constituencies to go for polls for Haryana Legislative Assembly on October 21. Panipat City falls under Panipat District of Haryana. Rohita Rewri is the current MLA of Panipat City.

In the 2014 Haryana Vidhan Sabha (Haryana Legislative Assembly) Elections, BJP candidate Rohita Rewri defeated Congress candidate Virender Kumar Shah by more than 50 thousand votes.

As of 2011 India census, Panipat had an urban population of 5,13,195.

Out of the 90 Assembly constituencies in Haryana, 17 are reserved for Scheduled Castes as per the Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly Constituencies Order, 2008.
