Interim chief minister O. Panneerselvam was expelled from AIADMK just after party general secretary Sasikala Natarajan concluded emergency meet at the Poes Garden. Panneerselvam was also sacked from AIADMK’s treasurer post, hours after he said on Tuesday that he was forced and threatened to resign as the CM to pave way for Sasikala to take the position.

“I was appointed treasurer by Amma and no-one can take away my post. I don’t fear anybody and DMK is no way involved in it,” said OPS after being sacked. The expelled leader also stated that he is a staunch follower of AIADMK. “Wait and see what happens today.”

“I was forced to resign by Sasikala,” Panneerselvam had told reporters at Marina Beach just 40 minutes after meditating at Jayalalithaa’s memorial.

As per Panneerselvam, Sasikala and her supporters were not happy with the success of his regime on issues such as Jallikattu protest, mitigating the drinking water issue in Chennai, setting right the damage triggered by Vardah cyclone and others.

However, Sasikala accused DMK for the revolt and said, “Panneerselvam working at DMK’s behest, BJP is not as much to blame for the revolt”.

DMK was behind Panneerselvam’s move, she said. The party general secretary also stated that the allegations made against her are incorrect. “What OPS is saying is false. Never put pressure on OPS to quit,” she added.
