Parasakthi and Jana Nayagan Pongal Clash: In an unexpected and candid address at the pre-release event of his upcoming film Parasakthi, Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan opened up about the surprising box-office clash with Thalapathy Vijay’s Jana Nayagan during the festive Pongal season. What began as a scheduling detail among industry insiders quickly became one of the most talked-about conversations in South Indian cinema and SK didn’t hold back in sharing his honest reaction.
Parasakthi and Jana Nayagan Pongal Clash: What Really Happened?
Sivakarthikeyan revealed that Parasakthi was originally planned for a Diwali 2025 release. When the team decided to shift Parasakthi to Pongal 2026, it seemed like a safe choice, until Jana Nayagan also moved into the same slot. They did not wish to confront the Jana Nayagan team, planned to debut this amazing movie during that particular festive season just the same. This unexpected development left the actor “genuinely shocked,” he said, prompting immediate discussions with his production team about potentially changing the date yet again.

However, logistical constraints, most notably that investors were already committed to a Pongal release made another shift difficult. Delaying the film further, Sivakarthikeyan explained that they could have pushed it into the summer of 2026, right as the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections approach, complicating promotional and distribution plans.

Reaching Out to Vijay’s Camp
Rather than letting speculation swirl around, Sivakarthikeyan took a respectful and public-spirited step, he personally contacted Vijay’s manager, Jagadish, to express his concern about the overlapping releases. As he put it, the actor felt that while Vijay might not be troubled by the clash, Parasakthi could be especially since Jana Nayagan is being promoted as the superstar’s last cinematic release before his political plunge.
“You might not have a problem, but I will. Jana Nayagan is being promoted as Vijay sir’s last film. Please ask him once,” the actor recalled telling him.
What followed was a moment that cinema lovers across Tamil Nadu appreciated: Vijay, through his manager, reassured Sivakarthikeyan that there was enough space and goodwill in the Pongal window for both films to thrive without harming each other’s prospects. He also extended his best wishes to the Parasakthi team.
‘Annan-Thambi’ Pongal and New Dates
In a tone that was both humble and celebratory, Sivakarthikeyan urged fans not to read rivalry into the situation. Emphasising their rapport even referencing his cameo in Vijay’s film The GOAT, he encouraged moviegoers to first enjoy Jana Nayagan on January 9 and then come celebrate Parasakthi on January 10 as part of a festive, cinema-loving Pongal spirit. “This is an ‘annan-thambi’ (elder brother-younger brother) Pongal,” he said, inviting fans to enjoy both releases without conflict.

Sivakarthikeyan said, “Vijay Sir believes that since it’s Pongal, both films have enough space and won’t affect each other. He also sent his best wishes for Parasakthi. So please enjoy Jana Nayagan on January 9, and come watch Parasakthi on January 10.”
The Pongal festival has always been one of the most competitive periods in Tamil cinema, but this year’s clash carries added emotional and political significance: Jana Nayagan is being seen not just as a mass entertainer but as Vijay’s last film before a full transition into politics, while Parasakthi, set against the backdrop of 1960s social movements also carries themes that resonate with the current cultural moment.
