Pay and stay in prison for a day!

For all those looking for adventure or some cheap thrill in life, Telangana is the perfect destination. Because the newest initiative called ‘Feel the jail’ will literally make you FEEL the jail! If your childhood is also marked with movies like ‘Sholay’ and ‘Kaala Patthar’ (like mine) and if you have always wondered about how exactly a prison looks like, then hop on to Telangana’s Medak jail.

The Telangana  Prisons Department has come out with the concept of Jail Tourism for people and under these initiative tourists visiting a colonial-era jail in Medak district can now get a first-hand experience of prison life by paying a fee of ₹500 for a day’s stay.

If you guys are wondering that why would anyone pay to spend time in a jail? Well, the 220-year-old Jail at Sangareddy, has been converted into a museum, where people can get a real life experience of a jail as they will be kept in the same conditions and fed the same food as other inmates.

Everything inside the confinement will be according to the state prison manual and the inmate will be provided with a prison uniform made of khadi, a steel meal plate and glass, a mug besides washing soap, bathing soap, bedding and fan. Even the food will be humble, consisting of staple rice, dal, chickpea and curd.

Authorities feel that this move will dissuade people from indulging in “wrong things.” There is no work schedule for visiting ‘prisoners’ but they have to clean their barracks and are free to plant saplings during their stay, the official said.

Till now no tourist has availed this offer and according to Laxmi Narasimha, Deputy Superintendent of the Jail, “A prior intimation is necessary, so that preparations can be made for “visiting inmates.”
