Former Jharkhand chief minister and Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) chief Babulal Marandi called for fresh elections to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) in a press conference on Friday after a video clip showing chief minister Raghubar Das manipulating votes was released by his party six days ago.

Jharkhand Chief Minster Raghubar Das has been at the centre of sting controversy after the JVM party released a video that allegedly showed him managing MLAs for the June 11 Rajya sabha polls. This sting operation is allegedly from 10th June where a meeting took place between Das and former Congress minister Yogendra Sao, who has many criminal charges against him. Furthermore, Das can also be seen asking the state’s Additional Director General (ADG) of police Anurag Gupta to clear Sao’s name in lieu of votes.

In the clips, Chief Minister’s media advisor Ajay Kumar has also been mentioned. Kumar, is asking Yogendra Yadav to convince his wife Nirmala Devi, who is a Congress MLA from the Barkagaon constituency in the state, to cast her vote for the BJP candidate.

Marandi, along with leaders from opposition parties including Gautam Sagar Rana and Annapurna Devi of Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD), Jaleshwar Mahto of JD(U), Vinod Pandey of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Rajeev Ranjan Prasad of Congress and KD Singh of CPI met Jharkhand’s Governor Draupadi Murmu with a memorandum that had proof of the alleged horse trading .

Marandi has demanded a CBI probe in the matter or Special Investigative Team should established by the court. Questioning the role of Anurag Gupta, he also said an FIR should be lodged against him.

The two BJP candidates who won from Jharkhand were Union Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Mahesh Poddar.
