Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday labelled the restoration of statehood as the “right” of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, vowing that the INDIA bloc will vigorously campaign in Parliament and on the streets if the Centre does not restore it after assembly elections.
Gandhi condemned the 2019 decision to split the state into two Union Territories as an unprecedented move. “This has never happened in the history of India,” Gandhi emphasized, adding that the INDIA alliance would use its “full force” to reverse this change.
Gandhi’s remarks came during his third visit to the region in under a month, underscoring the restoration of statehood as a key electoral issue. He also criticised the current administration for benefiting non-residents over locals and accused the central government of prioritising the interests of select business magnates.
