Rajasthan: Muslim auto driver beaten up, forced to chant ‘Jai Shree Ram’, ‘Modi Zindabad’

The culprits allegedly pulled the driver’s beard, punched his tooth out, and asked him to go to Pakistan.

A Muslim auto driver in Rajasthan’s Sikar was brutally beaten up by two people and forced to chant “Jai Shree Ram” and “Modi Zindabad”, here on Thursday. The culprits allegedly pulled the driver’s beard, punched his tooth out, and asked him to go to Pakistan.

According to the victim, while dropping his passengers at the railway station at 4 AM, two unknown people stopped him and forced him to chant “Jai Shree Ram” and further brutally beaten him.

A case has been registered at Sadar Police Station against and the culprits are yet to be identified.

There has been a spate of recent cases in which religious slogans have been weaponised during attacks on minorities. A 25-year-old man was allegedly beaten up, abused, and forced to chant “Jai Shri Ram” in the Diva area of Thane, Maharashtra.  Faizal Usman Khan said he was attacked when his taxi broke down and he was trying to fix it. His attackers fled after a passenger called the police.

In the eastern city of Kolkata, Hafeez Mohd Shahrukh Haldar, a 26-year-old Muslim teacher at a madrassa (religious seminary), was heckled while travelling on a train by a group of men chanting “Jai Shri Ram”.

Last year, a video went viral on social media showed a terrified Muslim man tied to a pole being assaulted by a lynch mob made up of Hindu men in the eastern state of Jharkhand. In the video, 24-year old Tabrez Ansari was seen pleading for his life, blood and tears streaming down his face. His attackers forced him to repeatedly chant “Jai Shri Ram”.
