Rajiv Gauba to take over as Home Secretary; 27 IAS officers transferred

Rajiv Gauba, presently Secretary in the Ministry of Urban Development, has been elected as the next Home Secretary after Rajiv Mehrishi. Mehrishi will retire on August 30 when Gauba will officially take charge. Meanwhile, Gauba will serve as an Officer on Special Duty in the Home Ministry.

A 1982-batch IAS officer, Gauba was originally of the Bihar cadre. He was moved to Jharkhand after the state’s separation. Gauba represented India in International Monetary Fund (IMF) for four years. Now that he is elevated to the Home Secretary, he will be replaced by Durga Shanker Mishra. Mishra was serving as Additional Secretary in the Urban Development Ministry.

Notably, the government shifted 27 IAS officers in this significantly extensive reshuffle. NK Sinha, who is currently serving as Culture Secretary, has been chosen as Information and Broadcasting Secretary. He will replace Ajay Mittal who has been sent to the Department of Personnel and Training.

Yudhvir Singh Malik, a 1983-batch Haryana cadre officer, has been selected as Secretary, Road Transport, and Highways. He will be replaced by Deepak Kumar, the Director General of Employee’s State Insurance Corporation.

Subhash C. Garg, a 1983-batch Rajasthan cadre officer has been made Secretary, Economic Affairs. Electronics and Information Technology Secretary Aruna Sundarajan has been employed as Telecommunications Secretary.

Secretary, Food Processing Industries, Avinash K. Srivastava will be the Consumer Affairs Secretary. Rajiv Kapoor has been picked as Secretary, Chemicals, and Petrochemicals. Sanjeevanee Kutty will be the new Secretary, Ex-Servicemen Welfare in the Defence Ministry.

Arun Kumar Panda, Additional Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, has been chosen as Secretary, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. Ravi Kant, Additional Secretary, Defence, has been chosen as Secretary in the Ministry of Shipping.

Anand Kumar, Managing Director National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, has been moved as Secretary, New and Renewable Energy. Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Director General Foreign Trade, will be the new Power Secretary.

The changes were accepted by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet.
