Former home secretary, Rajiv Mehrishi, was sworn in as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India on Monday. He succeeds Shashi Kant Sharma. He is 62 years old.
He was administered the oath of office and secrecy by President Ram Nath Kovind at Rashtrapati Bhavan. His tenure will be for three years. According to the norms, the CAG is appointed for a term of six years or till the incumbent attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier.
Mehrishi is a 1978 batch (retired) Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Rajasthan cadre, who hails from Rajasthan. He holds Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow (UK). He also has a Master of Arts (MA) and Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees from St Stephen’s College in Delhi University
He has held several posts in both his state cadre Rajasthan and in the Centre. Last month, he completed his two-year fixed term as the home secretary. Before being appointed as the home secretary, he had worked as economic affairs secretary and chief secretary of Rajasthan.
