After months of wait and debate, BJP President Amit Shah has finally declared the name of its party’s presidential candidate and it is barely-known Bihar Governor Ramnath Kovind. Just after the announcement, the social media was abuzz with Kovind’s name all over the internet.
The decision came in a surprising turn of events. Several names like RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj were doing rounds. But finally, the BJP proposed the name of Kovind, a 70-year-old, as their candidate.
Here’s how social media reacted on Ram Nath Kovind being the BJP’s presidential candidate:

By choosing Pratibha Patil UPA established that just anybody could be President of India. BJP now takes it forward with another unknown

No political party can oppose a Dalit for president; an uninspiring choice but politically strategic.Wish the new Prez well! #RamnathKovind

Killing two birds with one stone, it will woo Dalit voters as well as stop opposition as they can't afford to oppose a dalit.#RamnathKovind

Gyani Zail Singh was #IndiraGandhi's Sikh card when Sikhs were unhappy. #RamnathKovind is BJP's Dalit card to tackle anti-Dalit image.
