Rapur Dalit atrocity: Hyderabad HC issues notices to DGP, Chief Secretary

Hyderabad: The Hyderabad High Court on Wednesday issued notices to Andhra Pradesh top government officials including DGP and Chief Secretary in the horrific Rapur Dalit torture case which happened on August 1 this year.

The High Court has issued notices to the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary of Home and Social Welfare, Director General of Police (DGP), Nellore District Collector, the Rapur Sub-Inspector (SI), the Gudur division Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and others.

HC has issued notices for filing detailed counter affidavits in the petition filed by the R Rama Chandraiah and others from the Dalit community, alleging brutal attack and torture of Dalits by the police officials at Rapur Police station in Nellore district.

The hearing in the case was adjourned by two weeks. Justice AV Sesha Sai who was hearing the case against the police personals responsible for the alleged brutal torture of the petitioners post police station assault, were demanding to entrust the case either to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or Special Investigation Team (SIT)

No action was taken despite complaints made to the concerned authorities. Petitioners and other victims were alleging threat to their life from police and later sought a judicial enquiry into the entire issue.
