Vijay Shah, Madhya Pradesh education minister, on Wednesday, directed all the schools in Satna district to make sure that the students respond to their roll call with ‘Jai Hind’ instead of ‘yes Sir/Madam’ from 1 October. He also said that depending on the success of the measure, steps will be taken to implement it in the whole state.

As for now, the new measure has been passed on to the government schools. Shah said that he would take the permission from chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, to get the move implemented in all the schools, both government and private.

“For now, this is just a suggestion to private schools in Satna,” Shah said. He hoped that the schools will “adhere to his advice since it was related to patriotism”.

The minister has issued these instructions to the divisional meeting of teachers, principals, Jan Shikshaks and block resource coordinators in Chitrakoot. Earlier, he had asked all the schools to hoist the Indian national flag daily and make sure the national anthem is sung every day during the morning assembly.

In March this year, Shah had suggested that Sanskrit should be made the national language of the country. “Sanskrit has its value in Tamil and Telugu and also is our dev-bhasha. Apart from Hindi, MP has no official language,” he concluded.
