Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) will celebrate Lalu Prasad Yadav’s 73rd birthday on May 11 as ‘Garib Samman Diwas’ by feeding poor families facing tough times due to the novel coronavirus.

Tejashwi told ANI, “Tomorrow we will celebrate Lalu ji’s birthday as ‘Garib Samman Diwas’. Instead of cutting a cake or lighting candles, we will feed the poor. We worry about the poor, unemployment & farmers while state govt only worries about elections”.

RJD spokesperson Chitranjan Gagan said, “Lalu ji has always worked for the poor and nothing could be better than helping the poor on his birthday. This will give him real happiness”.

On April 17, 2020, Lalu’s elder son, Tej Pratap Yadav celebrated his birthday by operating a kitchen named after his father  “Lalu ki Rasoi” and served free food to over 500 needy and poor people daily throughout the lockdown till May 3.

Lalu, who is in Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi, is at present undergoing treatment at RIMS hospital. In his absence, his younger son Tejashwi Prasad Yadav was given the command to steer the party.

The RJD Chief was sentenced to 14 years in jail and fined Rs 60 lakh by a special CBI court in connection with the fourth fodder scam case of fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.13 crore from Dumka treasury in the early 1990s.
