Tensions prevailed in and around the University of Hyderabad as students observed Rohit Shahadat Diwas on his first death anniversary.
Radhika Vemula, mother of Rohith Vemula and Raja Vemula, brother of Vemula were detained by the police from the university main gate on Tuesday.
Telangana police also detained Hindustan Times correspondent Sudipto Mandal from Hyderabad University.
Rohith’s brother was allegedly dragged by the police and taken to the police station.
Rohith’s mother and brother were refused entry by the University administration to pay tribute at Rohit’s memorial located inside the campus.
Over 20 other students too were detained by the police for trying to entry the university campus.
The arrested were taken to Gachibowli police station.
The University denied permission for media and journalist to enter the campus citing the High Court orders that no outsider should be allowed into the university premises.
Earlier, Cyberabad police has detained the correspondent of “Frontline” magazine who had come to the Hyderabad University campus to cover the protest program.
