Both Sanjay Kothari, chairman of the Public Enterprises Selection Board and senior journalist, Ashok Malik have been appointed as secretary and press secretary to new President-elect Ram Nath Kovind.
Senior Gujarat-cadre forest service officer Bharat Lal will also join as joint secretary to Kovind, said an order issued today by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).
The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet, headed by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, approved these appointments for an initial period of two years.
Kothari, a 1978-batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre, retired in June last year as DoPT secretary. He was in November 2016 appointed as the chief of the government’s head-hunting agency, the PESB. He has served in various positions both at the Centre and state cadre.
On the other hand, Malik is at present Distinguished Fellow at Observer Research Foundation (ORF), a policy think tank. He is the head of the ORF’s Neighborhood Regional Studies Initiative. He moreover focuses on Indian domestic politics and foreign/trade policy, and their increasing interplay.
Both of these brilliant minds will now serve the President in the parliamentary work and continue their service towards the nation.
