Saudi Arabia has chosen its new crown prince replacing Muhammad bin Nayef with Mohammed bin Salman. The 31-year-old Salman has been his country’s defense minister and deputy crown prince. He was credited with a “huge success” for President Donald Trump’s recent decision to stop in Saudi Arabia.The young prince has played a crucial role in Saudi Arabia’s struggles to shape its economy beyond the oil industry. Salman holds key responsibility for the kingdom’s military and energy sector. Salman also met Trump in the White House in March. He agreed that Iran exemplifies a regional security threat.
The Crown Prince:
Second most important position in Saudi Arabia, the Crown Prince is second to the king, and is his designated successor. Presently, the Crown Prince assumes power with the support of the Allegiance Commission after being chosen by the king. But, the Crown Prince handles all affairs in the absence of the king.
An order is also gets issued in this regard to have the prince manage the matters of the state until the king’s return. This order changes the prince’s title provisionally from the Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister to Vice Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques until the return of the king to the kingdom. The system was introduced in the country during Abdullah Era.
