SBI New Rule From October 1: State Bank of India (SBI) looks like it will revise the cash withdrawal charges for customers with Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) accounts starting on October 1, 2026. As per the revised service-charge timetable, the first 4 cash withdrawals in a month stay free, and then every withdrawal after that 4th one will come with a ₹15 charge plus the applicable GST. This change seems pretty direct but also important for routine cash use.
The change applies specifically to the BSBD Account – Branch Channel (Product Code 1011-1701). SBI has published the revised charges on its official website.
SBI New Rule From October 1
According to SBI’s official notice, BSBD account holders will continue to get four free cash withdrawals every month.
From the fifth cash withdrawal onwards, the bank will levy:
- ₹15 per additional cash withdrawal
- GST will be charged separately
- The rule will take effect from October 1, 2026
For example, if an eligible customer makes five cash withdrawals during a month, the first four will remain free and the fifth will attract ₹15 plus GST. A sixth withdrawal would also attract the same charge.
Which Cash Withdrawals Will Count?
Importantly, SBI’s revised notice says the four-withdrawal limit covers cash withdrawals through multiple channels. These include:
- SBI branch
- ATM
- Micro-ATM
- Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS)
- CASH@POS
- Other applicable cash-withdrawal modes
Digital Transactions Will Remain Free
The revised rule is specifically about cash withdrawals. SBI has clarified that digital transfer transactions made through channels such as UPI, IMPS, NEFT, RTGS and POS will continue to remain free.
Why SBI Customers Should Pay Attention?
The change is particularly relevant for customers who regularly depend on cash and use their BSBD account for frequent withdrawals.
For someone making four or fewer cash withdrawals a month, there will be no additional withdrawal charge under the revised structure. The cost comes into play only when the monthly cash-withdrawal count crosses four.
India Today also reported that the revised charges will apply to eligible BSBD accounts opened through SBI’s branch channel, rather than to every SBI savings account.

What Is an SBI BSBD Account?
A Basic Savings Bank Deposit (BSBD) Account is designed to provide essential banking services without the requirement to maintain a minimum balance. SBI’s current product info says that eligible people with valid KYC documents can open the account but it’s always under the bank’s own conditions.
The account also includes a basic RuPay ATM-cum-debit card and apparently there is no annual maintenance charge. SBI adds that digital payment stuff like UPI , NEFT, RTGS and IMPS are not treated as “withdrawals” when you look at the existing product terms.
Is This Charge On All SBI Savings Accounts?
No. The ₹15 plus GST charge which was announced starting October 1 is mainly about cash withdrawals from the BSBD account category that is covered in SBI’s revised schedule. That part doesn’t automatically mean that every savings-account holder with SBI will get charged ₹15 after four cash withdrawals.
If a customer has other SBI account types then they should check the relevant service-charge schedule for that particular account because it can differ a bit.
