The engine and power car of the Ranchi-New Delhi Rajdhani train has derailed near Delhi’s Shivaji Bridge. However, no injuries have been reported so far. The incident happened around 11:45 am on Thursday.

“Engine, power coach of Delhi-Ranchi Rajdhani Express derail near Minto Bridge in New Delhi; no fatalities,” said the Northern Railway spokesperson.

Notably, this is the second such incident on the same day. In the morning, seven coaches of the Howrah-Jabalpur Shaktipunj Express derailed in Sonbhadra district of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Railway ministry spokesperson said in the morning, “The accident occurred at around 6:25 am and we have already cleared out the site. All passengers were put on the remaining coaches and by 7:28 AM all of them had left the spot. All of them are safe and no one was injured in the accident.”

This was the fourth derailment in less than a month. There have been a series of rail accidents since last month that also led Suresh Prabhu to offer his resignation. Prabhu is now the Commerce Minister.

The Kalinga Utkal Express derailed in Muzaffarnagar district leaving 22 people dead in August. The Kaifiyat Express also derailed in the same month in Auraiya district injuring 74 people. Both accidents happened in Uttar Pradesh. After the series of accidents, Railway board chairman, AK Mittal resigned.
