What Senior Citizens should check first?
Before putting money into an FD, it is wise to read the brochure and the bank rules slowly. The tenure matters a lot. So does liquidity, because breaking an FD early can cut the return. Equitas says premature withdrawal is allowed after 6 months without penalty on its 888-day deposit page, and it also says partial and full premature withdrawal are allowed. That kind of rule can matter a lot when a person may need cash later.
Tax
FD interest is taxable, and reports in May 2026 note that TDS can apply once interest crosses the relevant limit, though senior citizens may be able to use the proper declaration form based on the latest rules. Deposit safety also matters. DICGC says each depositor is insured up to ₹5,00,000 for principal and interest in the same bank. That is why checking the bank’s trust level is as important as checking the rate.
