The news channel revealed in an internal email on Wednesday that journalist Ravish Kumar had resigned from his position as senior executive editor at NDTV India.

The news anchor who won the Ramon Magsaysay Award formerly hosted Hum Log, Ravish Ki Report, Desh Ki Baat, and Prime Time.

His resignation was effective immediately, according to NDTV. The email claimed, “Few journalists have affected people as much as Ravish.” This is shown in the enormous feedback he receives: the large crowds he attracts everywhere, the numerous prizes and acclaim he has garnered in India and abroad, and his daily reports advocating for the rights and needs of the underserved.

Kumar received the Ramon Magsaysay Award in September 2019 for “using journalism to give voice to the voiceless.”

The Ramon Magsaysay Foundation cited Kumar’s “unwavering commitment to a professional, ethical journalism of the highest standards; his moral courage in standing up for truth, integrity, and independence; and his principled belief that journalism fulfils its noblest aims to advance democracy by giving a full and respectful voice to the voiceless, by speaking the truth bravely yet soberly to power.”

The news channel informed the Bombay Stock Exchange in a regulatory filing that its founders, Prannoy Roy and Radhika Roy, have resigned as directors of RRPR Holding Private Limited a day before Kumar’s resignation was announced.
