There were 21 candidates in the fray this year. Last year, the number of contestants was 27. There are four women candidates, among whom only one is in the race for the post of president. Two women candidates are vying for the post of vice-president. Last year, there were nine women candidates. This year, there are six presidential candidates, down from nine last year.
