On Friday, Congress leader and former Union Minister Shashi Tharoor has filed a defamation case against popular journalist Arnab Goswami for an amount of 2 crores and 10,000 rupees.
“We filed today in Delhi High Court. Had enough of his campaign of calumny”, he tweeted.
This comes soon after an allegation by Goswami’s new venture Republic TV. Republic TV released an expose related to Tharoor’s wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death. Republic TV aired apparent audio tapes between one of the channel’s reporters and an aide of Tharoor’s. These tapes suggest that Pushkar’s body had been moved from one room to another at the Leela Palace Hotel in New Delhi on January 17, 2014, the night she had died.
However, Tharoor denied the claims calling it a publicity stunt to “create attention” for the news channel.
In fact, Goswami had accused Tharoor of running away from the media following which Tharoor took to social media to air his views.
He tweeted: “Exasperating farrago of distortions, misrepresentations &outright lies being broadcast by an unprincipled showman masquerading as a journalist”.
Notably, this tweet got a lot of traction on social media.
