A destructive fire broke out in a cooler godown in Hyderabad, killing at least 6 people. Six bodies were recovered from the spot as four fire tenders have managed to drench the flame. The reason behind the fire is yet to be known.

The accident came into the light at around 5 AM when a police team noticed flames erupting from the unit.  Soon, they alerted Fire department officials as the blaze spread quickly, a senior police officer said. All the deceased were basically from Chhattisgarh and Bihar.

“The fire has been extinguished with the help of four fire engines. The six bodies have been taken out and sent to state-run Osmania General Hospital for post-mortem,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shamshabad Zone) P V Padmaja said as per a report in The Indian Express.

The unit that manufacture air coolers and battery operated vehicles is enclosed by residential area. Typically four workers are present at the unit but yesterday two more had joined them, she said.  The owner of the unit has been taken into detention. The owner had not taken even the least required precautions, suggests preliminary investigation.

“A case of negligence will be registered,” the senior officer said. The probe is in progress to determine the exact cause of the fire.
