The Karnataka government announces to raise state bus fare upto 18 per cent. The order came in the thick of the sharp hike in the diesel prices in recent days. The state road transport running in Karnataka had to bear the brunt of the price rise in Petrol. The government has decided to overcome the loss by increasing the transportation charges in the state.

“The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and other regional transport corporations have incurred a loss of Rs 186 crore during the last three months owing to hike in fuel prices,” said Transport Minister DC Thammanna.

While announcing the hike in state bus fare, the minister clarified that the hike has nothing to do with the upcoming festivals. Further, he added that during the festival, the private bus ticket charges may go additional up.

The minister also opened up about the promised scheme of providing free buses for school and college students and said that it will be started soon after consultation with the chief minister HD Kumaraswamy.
