Just over a month after Reddit closed down its one of the most popular subreddits, Soccer Streams, the news aggregator has now put a ban on the Megalinks community. Megalinks subreddit, which was extensively used to share content uploaded on the New Zealand based cloud storage website, mega.nz, has been closed down for “violations of Reddit’s Copyright Repeat Infringement Policy.” The subreddit had more than 100K subscribed and used to share infringing content, like full episodes of TV series and movie shows.
In April, last year, the sub’s moderators explained that following a direct warning from Reddit’s administrators, the decision had been taken to shutdown the website. But though, the new submission were not allowed on the forum, the previous ones had continued to remain visible.
The ban took place on 2nd March.
Earlier, another subreddit, r/soccerstreams which had over 425K members and was exclusively looked for streaming options during live football games was banned by Reddit. As most of the streaming links shared were illegal and accounted to Reddit policy infringements, moderators had to take the drastic step.
Two new subreddits, r/soccerstreams_pl, r/soccerstreams_other were created, but they soon got taken down.
Reddit, is a news aggregator website that always something new to offer. From an experiment of the button to the pixel collaborative effort which happened in April 2017, the web portal has always been one of the most innovative.
