Gurugram, Nov 9 (IANS) Gurugram : After the sudden death of around 20 people due to the consumption of poisonous liquor in Sonipat district of Haryana on November 4, the State Excise Department has become active.
The Excise Department in Gurugram is now advising people not to buy liquor from any unauthorised place or vendor as it can be fatal and only buy liquor from authorised shops on behalf of Excise Department.
Gurugram Deputy Excise and Taxation Commissioner Aruna Singh, told the reporters on Monday that, “Those who are fond of or addicted to drink should only buy from the liquor shops approved by the Excise Department.”
“Under the Excise Office (East) of Gurugram, 138 shops of country and English liquor are allotted in the area and besides these, 43 sub-contracts are also approved,” She added.
Similarly, there are 146 local and English liquor shops and 75 sub-contracts in the area under the Excise Office (West) zone of Gurugram.
Among the shops approved by the Excise Department, the liquor shops of the state tourism department are also running in Gurugram. These shops are located in the Auto Market opposite Unitech Cyber Park, Bakhtawar Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk, Sector-72A and Atul Kataria Chowk.
She has also appealed to the general public to immediately inform about sale of illicit liquor anywhere in Gurugram district on the telephone numbers 0124-4301999 and 0124-4646254 of the East and West Gurugram offices of the Excise Department.
“Apart from this, police can also inform the control room number 100 and 112 and 0124-2316100 of the police department. The name of the informer will be kept secret,” she added.
