SSDI COLA Increase 2025: If you are a receiver of SSDI Benefits, you might be curious weather the payment will increase next year or not. The official Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2025 will be announced by Social Security in October. However, early estimates can give you an idea of what to expect.

Why is the 2025 COLA lower?

The Senior Citizens League, a nonpartisan group advocating for seniors, projects that the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2025 will be about 2.5%. This forecast is based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) from the Department of Labor.

If this projection is accurate, recipients of Social Security benefits might see a slight increase in their monthly payments starting in January.

SSDI COLA Increase 2025: Projected Increase

In August 2024, the average Social Security benefit for a retired worker was $1,920.48. With the projected 2.5% Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) for 2025, this benefit would increase by $48.01, resulting in a new monthly payment of $1,968.49.

This 2.5% increase is lower than the record 8.7% COLA adjustment in 2023, which was driven by sharp inflation. However, it aligns with the historical average of 2.6% over the past 20 years. The large 2023 increase was due to high inflation rates, which have now moderated, bringing the 2025 adjustment closer to typical long-term trends.

Even though the 2.5% COLA for 2025 is less dramatic than the previous year, it still provides a useful increase to help offset rising living costs. Keep in mind that other factors, like Medicare premiums, may affect the actual amount of the increase you receive in your monthly benefit.

COLA Increase 2025 Projection: What is the latest projection?

In 2025, the standard Medicare Part B premium is expected to increase by about $10.30 per month.

For many Social Security recipients, this could offset the increase from the Cost-of-Living Adjustment (COLA) if their Medicare premiums are deducted directly from their benefits.

Once the official COLA is announced, you can estimate how it will affect your SSDI benefits. For instance, with a 2.5% increase, if you currently receive $2,000 per month, you might see an extra $50 each month. However, this is a rough estimate as factors like your full retirement age can affect the final amount.

Medicare premium rates are usually announced before the final COLA figures are confirmed in December. Keeping an eye on these updates will help you plan for any changes in 2025.
