Suspected militant snatches AK-47 from cop in Jammu

Suspected a militant snatched a service rifle from a policeman in Jammu, while gunmen attacked a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camp in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Saturday, Police and reports said.

Sources said a Police constable, Muhammad Hanief, posted as Personal Security Officer (PSO) of Maulana Sayeed Akhtar Dehlvi was attacked by a group of youth at Tawi bridge near Jewel Chowk in Jammu on late Saturday night.

The accused reportedly threw gun powder at the cop and snatched his AK 47 service rifle. One of the accused was reportedly apprehended by the Police.

In this regard state police launched a massive manhunt to nab suspected militant who escaped after snatching an AK-47 rifle from a police constable at Tawi bridge last night.

One of the suspects has been arrested and his motorcycle was seized. He has been identified as Masrool Ahmad, son of Abdul Rashid of Ratnipora, Shopian.

 Ahmad told the police that he was accompanied by Asif, son of Mohammad Ali Shah of Banpora, Shopian. He is still absconding with the AK rifle.

The police, however, suspect that they could be several other accomplices. The duo arrived in Jammu a few days ago, sources said, adding that questioning was in progress to find out their purpose of visit, besides the people and places they visited.
