In the middle of a serious discussion between parliamentarians on the situation in Jammu and Kashmir in Rajya Sabha, who would have thought All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) MP A Navaneethakrishnan would slice the tension with a song!

We’re not surprised that Navaneethakrishnan began, and ended, his speech with, “I thank Amma”—reference to Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa—but we are taken aback by the rest of his speech. Bellowing across the chambers of Parliament, he sings, “Kashmir, beautiful Kashmir! Kashmir, wonderful Kashmir!”

“This is a very popular song in one of the films acted by Dr MGR,” the MP explains. He goes on to reinstate that from Kashmir to Kanyakumari, “India is one”. “I belong to Kashmir and Kashmir belongs to me,” Navaneethakrishnan patriotically says. “The people of Tamil Nadu want a peaceful, beautiful Kashmir.”

Watch his dynamic performance here:

I can assure you, you won’t be singing anything else today!
