Happy Teachers Day: Every year India celebrate Teacher’s day in memory of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was the first Vice President and second President of independent India. Radhakrishnan was a renowned scholar, recipient of Bharat Ratna.
He was born on September 5, 1888. One of India’s most distinguished twentieth-century scholars of comparative religion and philosophy, Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan also worked as Professor at various Indian and international colleges and varsities like Madras Presidency College, University of Mysore, University of Calcutta, University of Oxford and University of Chicago. That’s why we are Celebrating Teachers day on his birthday.
Radhakrishnan believed that “Teachers should be the best minds in the country”. When he became the President of India (1962–1967), some of his students and friends requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, on 5 September. He replied, “Instead of celebrating my birthday, it would be my proud privilege if September 5th is observed as Teachers’ Day.” His birthday has since then celebrated as Teachers’ Day in India.
Teachers nourish and prepare students their future as they are the real icon of knowledge and wisdom. They create awareness among the students and common people.
It is rightly said that Teaching is not a service, profession or a job. It is a pillar of society. A teacher is not only responsible for imparting education, but he also plays a major role in shaping the future of the nation. A teacher strives to ensure that the child’s brain takes shape in the right way that needs to be accepted.
