Ever since Bihar chief minister, Nitish Kumar announced his resignation from the CM post on late Wednesday, the nation is stunned. The move came as a jolt not just to the Bihar politics but to the entire nation. While at one hand Kumar took oath at 10 am on Thursday, on the other hand political leaders are keep expressing their shock, anger, doubts and some even went on to dedicate a song to the situation Bihar is facing today.

Here’s who said what on Bihar politics and Nitish Kumar:

Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress: “I think it has become Nitish ji’s habit to change parties and stand every few years.”

Congress Vice-President, Rahul Gandhi: “This is the problem with Indian politics…people will do anything for their personal gains. Satta ke liye kuch bhi kar dete hain (they do anything for power). There is no morality, no ethics…  To tell you the truth, we knew this planning was going on for three-four months. In politics you get to know what’s in a person’s mind. I was aware of the conspiracy.”

Tejashwi Yadav, RJD leader: “Each development seemed planned. It was all pre-decided. Why was everything done in such rush? His resignation, followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) backing him, and staking claim to form government within hours of resignation, proves it.  In spite of their vote in Presidential election (in favour of President Ram Nath Kovind), we did not say anything as we wanted the grand alliance to continue. Tejashwi ek bahaana tha, case, investigation ek bahana tha, inko (Nitish) BJP ke sath jana tha.”

BSP Chief, Mayawati: “Current situation is not good for democracy.”

Goa Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar: “Nitish Kumar should have been with the BJP from the beginning. He is welcomed I am happy.”

Lalu Yadav, RJD chief: “We had a mandate of five years against the BJP, RSS. They (BJP, RSS) tried to communalise the election, were sent back empty handed. If I had a dirty mind, I wouldn’t have let Nitish Kumar be the Chief Minister. Prohibition was a sham. Nitish Kumar turned out to be a huge opportunist. Narendra Modi used to talk below the belt. Used to say Lalu will go to jail so he is training his children in politics. Nitish Kumar had a large role in my conviction in the lower court. It’s been 15 years since I have been fighting cases in court.”

Akhilesh Yadav:

Congress leader Digvijay Singh: “Nitish (Kumar) always speaks about ethics. Is this why the people of Bihar voted for you?  People of Bihar will decide if this is correct or not. Single largest party in the state is RJD and hence they should have been given a chance. If Nitish had problems he should have sacked Tejashwi. He should have called for a meet but to cheat the people of Bihar is not ethical. This is definitely scripted.”

JDU leader, Shravan Kumar: He worked for Bihar and masses are people are happy because he did not compromise with corruption.

KC Tyagi, JDU spokesperson: The Yadavs are accused in the corruption scandal and have not given any answers publiclly. This remained one of the key reasons for the fallout. Rahul Gandhi also betrayed us, he has supported corruption.

Congress spokesperson, Randeep S Surjewala: “PM had questioned political DNA of Nitish Kumar. Now, it has been proved that DNAs of JD(U) and BJP are identical, its opportunism. Nitish Kumar’s party secured least votes out of 3 parties (JDU, RJD & Cong), but was made CM after wishes of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi.”
