In a step to keeping minors away from alcohol, people will have to show their Aadhaar cards in pubs in order to justify their age in Telangana. This order comes from the prohibition and excise department of Telangana, after a murder investigation of a minor disclosed that she often used to visit a pub, according to India Today.

The deceased minor was served alcohol at a hotel based in the city, the investigation of cops further revealed.

With new orders now, the pub owners will ask for Aadhaar card from their customers and those below the age of 21 years will be not be permitted to drink. RV Chandravadan, the Excise Commissioner, asked all the pub owners in the city to serve alcohol in a limited quantity to their customers to avoid unexpected incidents. Moreover, the pub owners have been directed to maintain a record of their customers.

The government has also instructed the pub and bar managers to maintain a separate register with details of their clients. Besides preventing entry of under-age visitors at the pubs, the move could also help the excise department track movement of those it suspects of being involved in drug rackets.
