On the occasion of Durga Navratri, Telangana chief minister Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao will present an 11.7 kg gold crown worth over ₹3 crore to Goddess Bhadrakali at Warangal on Sunday.
The offering is towards fulfillment of Rao’s vow, which he had made during the agitation for a separate Telangana. Commissioned by Telanagana government, the headdress was made by a leading Hyderabad jeweler.
Earlier in December, it was reported that a religious ceremony organised by him had run up bills running into several crores. While he clarified that the expenses were met from his personal funds with contributions from well-wishers, the high expenditure was criticised for being extravagant at a time when the state’s own finances were in a precarious position.
