The Indian Army said a soldier was killed and his body mutilated by terrorists in an encounter in Machhal sector of Kupwara district, near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu Kashmir on Friday evening.
A terrorist was also killed in the encounter. Army warned of an “appropriate response”
“In a despicable act, the terrorists mutilated the body of the Indian Army soldier before fleeing into Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), supported by covering fire from Pakistan Army post” said a statement released by Army’s Northern command
Army said the act reflected the barbarism that “pervades official and unofficial organizations across the border”.
The attack came hours after the BSF said 15 Pakistani soldiers had been killed in retaliatory firing by Indian troops after Pakistan’s ceasefire violation along the International border in Jammu and Kashmir.
Pakistan , however,claimed that none of its soldier had been killed in border firing.
Meanwhile, three civilians including a woman was killed in mortar shelling along the LoC in Jammu and Poonch district on Friday. Four civilians were injured during a similar shelling in Kathua district of Jammu region.
