Texas tax filing deadline extension: The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has extended the Texas tax filing and payment deadline. This extension offers relief to taxpayers in 67 counties affected by Hurricane Beryl in early July.

Taxpayers in the affected counties now have until February 3, 2025, to file various federal individual and corporate tax forms and make tax payments, according to a statement on the IRS website.

The following 67 counties are eligible to petition for tax relief after receiving a reprieve from the IRS:

You won’t need to do anything to ask for an extension if you reside in one of the aforementioned counties—it will happen automatically. The government organization maintains the authority to include additional counties in the definition of a “disaster zone.”

Which situations is the extension applicable in?

Only specific situations qualify for the extended deadlines for filing and paying taxes:

  • 2023 Tax Return Extension: People and businesses that have been given more time to file their taxes in 2023 can get help, but not for payments that were due in the spring before the storm.
  • Quarterly Estimated Tax Payments: Due between September 16, 2024, and January 15, 2025.
  • Quarterly Payroll and Excise Tax Returns: Due July 31, 2024, and October 31, 2024, and January 31, 2025.
  • Payroll and Excise Taxes: Penalties for failing to deposit payroll and excise taxes due between July 5 and July 22, 2024, will be waived, provided the payments were made by July 22, 2024. For further details, refer to the IRS statement.
