The Accidental Prime Minister trailer launched: Anupam Kher as former PM Manmohan Singh, watch trailer here

The trailer of the much-awaited film, The Accidental Prime Minister is out. The movie stars Anupam Kher as former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. The movie will hit the theatres on 11 January 2019 and is based on the controversial memoir by Sanjay Baru with the same name.

Akshay Khanna could be seen narrating the story and playing the role of Sanjay Baru, the former PM’s media advisor. The role of former Congress President Sonia Gandhi is played by German actress Suzanne Bernert. Arjun Mathur and Aahana Kumara will be seen playing the role of Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi respectively.

The movie records the life of economist and politician Dr. Manmohan Singh who served as the Prime Minister of India from 2004 to 2014 under the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.

The Accidental Prime Minister is directed by debutant Vijay Ratnakar Gutte under the banner Rudra Productions (UK), Bohra Bros in association with Dr. Jayantilal Gada.

At the trailer launch of the movie, veteran actor Anupam Kher was asked if BJP intends to use this movie as an advantage as it is releasing just before the Lok Sabha elections, he said, “Patriotic films release on Independence Day and Republic Day, so we decided that we will release our film around elections, as it is on politics. What’s the problem in that?”

Anupam Kher who has transformed himself into looking like Manmohan Singh has also adapted his idiosyncrasies, similarly, other actors are also showing a striking resemblance in their characters with their real-life counterparts.
