Reduces stress by 65%
The University of Pennsylvania research team divides 157 adults into two categories. While one group was administered midazolam prior to surgery, the other group used noise-cancelling headphones to listen to Weightless by Marconi Union.
The researchers measured the anxiety levels of both groups and discovered that the melody was as calming as the administered sedative.
The group that received the substance was more satisfied with their overall experience, whereas the music group would have preferred to choose their own music.
According to the researchers, Weightless induces a 65% reduction in anxiety and a 35% reduction in normal physiological quiescent rates.
