A major anti-Naxal operation is underway in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, where security forces are engaged in an ongoing encounter with Maoists in the forested and hilly areas under the Gollapalli police station limits. Sukma police have confirmed that the exchange of fire is continuing intermittently since morning.
According to police sources, the encounter broke out after the District Reserve Guard (DRG) launched a search operation in the Gollapalli area following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of Maoists. During the operation, Naxalites opened fire on the advancing security personnel, prompting the forces to retaliate.
The operation has since intensified in the dense forest and hill terrain, with additional security forces placed on high alert in the surrounding areas to prevent any escape or counter-movement by the Maoists.
Three Maoists Killed
Sukma police have confirmed that three Maoists have been killed in the encounter so far. The bodies have been recovered and the slain Naxalites have been identified as members of the Kistaram Area Committee, a key Maoist unit active in the region.
The deceased Maoists have been identified as:
-
Madvi Joga alias Munna alias Jagat, member of the Kistaram Area Committee
-
Sodhi Bandi, member of the Kistaram Area Committee
-
Nuppo Bajni, a woman Maoist and member of the Kistaram Area Committee
Police officials said intermittent firing is still being reported from the encounter site, indicating that the operation is ongoing. A detailed assessment of arms, ammunition, and other materials recovered will be conducted once the area is fully secured.
Area on High Alert
Security forces have cordoned off the region as a precautionary measure. The challenging terrain and thick forest cover have made the operation complex, but forces remain on alert and continue combing the area.
Further details are expected once the operation concludes and a complete search is carried out.
