A TMC leader has condemned the ongoing protest by junior doctors in West Bengal, following their defiance of a Supreme Court directive to resume duties by 5 PM on Tuesday. The leader labeled the doctors as ‘anti-nationals’ and insisted on prompt action against them.
The remarks were made by Chandan Mukhopadhyay, a panchayat leader, in an unverifiable video clip recorded at a party event in Baduria, North 24 Parganas. The authenticity of the video has not been independently confirmed by PTI.
‘Despite the Supreme Court order, these doctors continue their strike. They have neglected their essential duty to serve the public,’ Mukhopadhyay stated in the video. ‘Immediate action must be taken against those defying court orders,’ he added.
The protesting junior doctors have maintained their cease-work stance for the 33rd day, seeking justice for a colleague allegedly raped and murdered at a state-run hospital. They continued their sit-in outside Swasthya Bhawan, demanding the ousting of the Kolkata Police Commissioner and senior health officials.
