A 15-year old girl was allegedly raped in Tamil Nadu by two drivers and a conductor in a bus. The three men, who committed the crime on Tuesday night have been arrested. However, the incident brings back the haunting memories of Nirbhaya, December 16, 2012.
The incident came to the fore after the villagers heard the cries of the girl and reported it to the police.
According to police, the girl after having a fight with her parents left the home and was later seen moving about aimlessly here yesterday. She later took a local bus in the afternoon and kept travelling aimlessly in the same bus till late night.
The drivers, Manivannan and Murugan, and conductor Perumal tried to appease the girl and befriended her. Later, the three men allegedly raped the girl at night.
A senior police official told PTI that the three were arrested and were being questioned.
“A total of nine sections including those from the IPC, Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, have been invoked against the accused”.
“The girl was taken to a hospital and produced before the Child Welfare Committee,” he added.
The police were on the lookout for another person, stated to be involved in the case, though not part of the sexual assault.
