According to the sources, the Tamil Nadu government is soon going to construct two lakh houses for the marginalised at a cost of Rs 7,800 crore. The initiative has been taken under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY).

As per the reports of Express, under Beneficiary Led construction (BLC) 1.84 independent houses would be built wherein assistance would be provided to individual eligible families belonging to the economically weaker sections. They can either construct new houses or enhance existing houses. The independent houses would be built at a cost of Rs 5,600 crore with the Union and state governments’ subsidy of Rs 2.10 lakh per unit.

Central assistance would be provided to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries. The contribution would be released in proportion to the value of construction in three to four instalments.
