In another case of shamelessness, nearly 18 men allegedly gang-raped a 20-year-old tribal woman near a university campus at Dighi in Jharkhand on Wednesday. The incident was reported 8 km from Dumka. According to a report, all the accused are aged between 18 and 22 years.
District SP Mayur Patel has been quoted as informing that six suspects have been detained.
According to a Times of India report, the victim was returning home on a bike with her boyfriend from the university campus when they were stopped by six men on an abandoned stretch of road around 6:30 pm.
The report quotes police officials as informing that the accused first allegedly thrashed the boy for being in a relationship with a tribal girl and also asked him to pay Rs 5000 ‘fine’ or hand over his cell phone. In the meantime, they called more men to join them.
According to reports, the accused asked the couple to strip and instructed the boy to rape her at knifepoint. The accused men then took turns to rape the girl. Police claimed that the accused made the girl bathe in a pond to destroy the evidence of the crime.
The girl was admitted at Dumka Sadar Hospital, whose condition is said to be improving and stable.
A report quotes the victim’s friend as informing, “About four men held me tight, with one of them putting a knife to my neck, while the others took her to the other side of the road. They raped her one after the other.”
