Uber Air Taxi Service Set to Launch in 2026:Uber is gearing up to debut electric air taxis that passengers will be able to book directly through the Uber app just like a regular ride. This marks one of the biggest shifts in ride-hailing history, transforming how people think about commuting in busy cities.

What Exactly Is Uber Air?

Uber Air powered by Joby which employs eVTOL aircraft operates through its current platform after Uber partnered with aerospace innovator Joby Aviation to launch this service. The aircraft operates on electric power and has a capacity to transport four passengers while flying at speeds that exceed regular urban street limits.

“We’ve long believed in the power of advanced air mobility to transform how people move through cities,” said Sachin Kansal, Chief Product Officer at Uber. “With Uber Air, riders will be able to book Joby’s electric air taxi through a simple and familiar, one-tap experience on Uber, seamlessly connecting every leg of their journey – making ground-to-sky travel even more effortless.”

“We set out to build a new layer of urban transportation,” said Eric Allison, Chief Product Officer at Joby. “Our focus has always been on creating a flight experience that operates quietly and integrates naturally into the rhythm of city life. By partnering with Uber, we’re making this new mode of transportation familiar and accessible, connecting the ground and the sky through a system designed to save people time and fit seamlessly into how they already move.”

Dubai is set to lead the world in this new form of urban mobility. By the end of 2026, residents and visitors in Dubai will be able to book electric air taxi flights directly through the Uber app.

The launch city is not a random choice Dubai has invested heavily in vertiport infrastructure (digital booking hubs for air taxis and related services), and regulators have been supportive of emerging transport technologies.

This means that later this year, riders in Dubai could potentially see Uber Air as an option alongside the usual UberX, Uber Black, or other ground-based categories when they enter their destination.

While the first confirmed commercial operations will begin in Dubai in 2026, Uber and Joby both have their sights set on future expansion to major cities worldwide including New York, Los Angeles, London, and Tokyo.

How to Book Uber Air?

Booking an Uber Air flight will feel familiar if you’ve ever used Uber before but the option will only appear when it’s available for your route.

Here’s how it will work once the service goes live:

1. Riders who want to experience the thrill of travelling in Uber Air taxis must open the app on their mobile phones.

2. Riders will be able to choose Joby aircraft option in select cities after entering their destination in the “Where To?” option.

3. Select Uber Air taxis and click “Confirm booking.”

The app will coordinate the ground-to-air journey seamlessly, including transfers to and from the vertiport.

What Riders Can Expect From the Service?

Uber Air flights, powered by Joby Aviation, are expected to offer:

Electric, low-noise operations, making them a greener alternative to helicopters and cars stuck in traffic.

Speeds of up to around 200 miles per hour, significantly faster than what’s possible on congested urban roads.

Seat configurations for up to four passengers plus a pilot, optimized for short-range city hops.

Tickets and pricing have not yet been universally disclosed, but Uber has suggested the fares will eventually position Uber Air as a premium option similar to how Uber Black sits above standard UberX rides. Pricing may also vary by city, route, and time of day.
