Understanding Child Support in California with CalWorks: Child support pertains to the continuous monetary contribution intended to assist in covering the living and medical costs of one or more children until they reach adulthood. The obligation to make a payment is referred to as the child support decree.
Federal and state legislation imposes an obligation on both parents to furnish financial assistance for their offspring. For children to experience a comparable standard of living to that of both parents, child support may be ordered by the court and may be paid by either or both parents.
Parents who, due to insufficient income from their salaries, are unable to provide child support and require financial assistance are certain instances that arise. The program is accessible to all 58 counties in the state via CalWorks.

CalWorks provides child support to whom?
CalWorks offers financial assistance to current or former cash aid recipients to pay for child care from a provider of their choosing. This is contingent upon their employment status or participation in county-approved welfare-to-work initiatives.
Teens enrolled in the Cal-Learn program who are pregnant or have children are also eligible for CalWorks child care. Care for children is offered until the age of 12, with an additional provision for children with exceptional requirements or severe disabilities until the age of 21.
If you are a CalWorks recipient of cash assistance for your child or children, the amount of the current month’s child support payment that is “passed through” to you may alter as of January 1, 2022.
There is a likelihood that the amount will increase from $50 to $100 for households with one child, and from there on up to $200 for households with two or more children. Because the law governing this “pass-through” has changed irrevocably, this is the case.
