UP Government blocks TikTok, Facebook and Twitter accounts accused of spreading fake coronavirus news

As per Awanish Awasthi, the state government has blocked 12 TikTok accounts, 7 Facebook profiles, 2 Twitter handles, and 1 WhatsApp account.

New Delhi: In the view to prevent the spread of fake news around coronavirus, the Uttar Pradesh government has blocked some of the social media accounts. As per Awanish Awasthi, the state government has blocked 12 TikTok accounts, 7 Facebook profiles, 2 Twitter handles, and 1 WhatsApp account.

Awasthi said at a press conference: “17,585 First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered and 22,632 vehicles seized for violation of the coronavirus lockdown.” Principal Secretary (Health) Amit Mohan Prasad also addressed the media briefing.

Moreover, more than 15,000 FIRs were registered in connection with the violation of lockdown imposed across the country to curb the spread of coronavirus.

Police also seized 22,632 vehicles. Awanish K Awasthi, the state’s Additional Chief Secretary (Home) shared the details.

Prasad said that Uttar Pradesh has reported 657 cases of coronavirus so far. He added that 49 of them recovered and 8 died. In the state, Agra recorded the highest number of single-day corona patients, and was the center of the COVID-19 outbreak in Uttar Pradesh. Now, the total number of the district is 142.
