With another fake encounter by Uttar Pradesh police, there is a lack of disbelief in the public about the functioning of police administration in the country.

This time, in a shocking incident, an Uttar Pradesh policeman on patrol duty allegedly shot dead Vivek Tiwari, an assistant sales manager for tech giant Apple, who allegedly tried to drive his car over a police motorcycle when the cops tried to stop him on Friday night.

“The constable (Prashant) fired in self-defence believing that some criminals were inside the car as the victim tried to flee after hitting the patrol bike,” senior superintendent of police Kalanidhi Naithani said, adding that Prashant Kumar and his colleague Sandeep Kumar have been arrested.

This was not the first incident of fake or false encounter by the men in khaki. Earlier, many innocent people have been killed by the police over their wrong suspicions, drawing an embarrassing and shameful reputation of UP cops.

As reported by Dynamite News, here are some of the fake encounters by UP police

  1. In a shocking report revealed by an organisation, Citizens Against Hate, it was disclosed that about 16 people were killed by police in 2017-18 in a fake and false encounter.
  2. On August 3, 2017, UP police had encountered a youth named Jaihind in Azamgarh.
  3.  A boy named Sumit Gurjar was shot dead by the Police in Bhagpat on October 30, 2017. Father of the deceased alleged that the police had picked up his son forcibly. Later they assaulted the victim and shot him dead.
  4. In August 2017, Adesh Yadav was encountered by the Police. The family of the deceased had claimed the incident to be a fake encounter and sought State human Rights Commission for the justice.
  5. In January 2018, man named Mukesh Rajbhar was killed by the police in an encounter. The brother of the deceased had accused that police had picked up Mukesh from Kanpur and the very next day he was reported to have been killed.
  6. Earlier this month, two youth were killed by the police in an encounter. Family of the deceased Naushad had claimed that police had forcibly picked Naushad from the house while he did not commit any crime.

Although many wanted criminals and culprits have been killed in the encounter, severl innocent ones too have lost their lives at the hands of the police because of the lack of facts and dicturbances in coordination.

The National Human Rights Commission issued a notice to the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led government about the barbaric action of the police personnel who took lives of the innocent people. Despite several notices against the constant encounters, there is no improvement in the work flow of state’s law and order system.
