UPSC Clarifies Rank 301 Row:The Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2025 results announcement led to a public dispute which spread through social media and news channels as two candidates with the same name Akanksha Singh both claimed to have achieved All India Rank 301.
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released an official statement which confirms that the Ghazipur candidate from Uttar Pradesh is the proper rank holder after several days of conflicting reports and various claims.
UPSC Clarifies Rank 301 Row
Soon after the UPSC announced the CSE 2025 final results, an unusual dispute surfaced online. Two women: both named Akanksha Singh publicly claimed that they had secured Rank 301 in the prestigious examination.
One claimant belonged to Ara in Bihar, while the other from Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh. The two parties submitted their evidence through documents and statements. This resulted in the situation becoming popular on social media and news media platforms.
Claims From Bihar and Uttar Pradesh
The candidate from Ara, Bihar, who is reportedly the granddaughter of Brahmeshwar Singh, founder of the now-banned Ranvir Sena, told reporters that she had secured the rank in her second attempt at the examination. She also described her disciplined preparation, saying she studied eight to ten hours daily during the preparation period.

Meanwhile, the Ghazipur-based Akanksha Singh alleged that her identity and rank were being misused. In a social media post, she claimed that someone else was falsely asserting ownership of her rank and shared documents that she said were authentic.
In a video, Ghazipur’s Akanksha said, “I am a gynaecologist by profession, currently practising at Patna AIIMS. I have come to know that another girl is claiming the 301st rank.
“This video is just for clarification. If one scans the QR code on both the admit cards, the matter will be very clear.”

UPSC Official Clarification
The UPSC intervened to settle the dispute because public speculation about the issue had reached a critical point. The Commission announced through official statements that Akanksha Singh from village Abhaipur in Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh secured the AIR 301 position.

The UPSC records show that the successful candidate who has roll number 0856794. She is the daughter of Ranjit Singh and Neelam Singh.
“There are various media reports, wherein two candidates of the same name, i.e. Akanksha Singh, are claiming to have secured the same rank 301 in the final result of the Civil Services Examination, 2025,” the UPSC said in a statement.
The clarification resolved the entire conflict between the parties and proved that the Uttar Pradesh candidate’s claim was accurate.
